The Man Who Ate The Man - Out Now

08 November 05

Magnétophone's long-awaited second album is out now.

It’s been more than 4 years since Matt and John released their debut album I Guess Sometimes I Need To Be Reminded Of How Much You Love Me, but they've spent the intervening time wisely - The Man Who Ate The Man is every bit as unique and spellbindinge as its predecessor.

The new album sees Magnétophone flirting with song structure and spinning webs of dreamily captivating texture. The record runs the gamut from sprawling psychedelia to the sweetest of melancholy snippets, aided and abetted by an array of cherry-picked collaborators. Breeders sisters Kim and Kelley Deal and troubadour PG Six represent underground America, while the James Yorkston and the Fence collective’s HMS Ginafore and King Creosote contribute skeins of Caledonian melody.

But despite this kaleidoscope of influences, The Man Who Ate The Man sounds like nothing else, more than the sum of its parts. It’s a sublime blend of vigorous beats, wayward sounds and perfectly poised vocals - an enlightened, beautiful and captivating record.
