Tune-Yards - tUnE-yArDs Album And Tour Dates, Hear New Track 'Water Fountain'
Tune-Yards : tUnE-yArDs Album And Tour Dates, Hear New Track 'Water Fountain'
18th March 2014

Due out May 6th, Nikki Nack - the third album from tUnE-yArDs - was announced when Merrill Garbus celebrated her birthday a few weeks back by posting a 'MegaMix' of album tracks online. Delighting fans, she's teased everyone long enough and is now ready to reveal more album details, plus a number of new live dates across North America and Europe throughout this summer.

Succeeding 2011's W H O K I L L (an album that featured prominently in most year end lists and even topped the Village Voice's highly prestigious Pazz & Jop poll), Nikki Nack is brilliantly playful, more than matching its jump-rope-chant title. Experiences in her time off between albums proved to be influential catalysts in the songwriting process; a life-affirming trip to Haiti, her upbringing, and finally catching up with 80s kid’s TV program Pee Wee’s Playhouse some 25 years since its first broadcast were all topics at the forefront of Merrill's mind that helped to color the record.

Also eager to try something different, she worked with producers Malay (Frank Ocean, Alicia Keys, Big Boi) and John Hill (Rihanna, Shakira, M.I.A.) on some tracks; "I had to let go of tUnE-yArDs being rigidly my production. I have a very specific vision for the sound of the band and I don't think women producers get enough credit for doing their own stuff, so I was resistant – but we grew, Nate and I both, and the songs grew. And it turns out that's what's most important: the songs, not my ego,” Merrill says.

The first track to be heard from the album, 'Water Fountain', can now be heard in the player above and streaming from her website. It is available to buy digitally now and is also available as an 'instant grat' download on iTunes when you pre-order the album.

Both Tune Yards' own webstore and the 4AD store will have some special pre-order offers posted at 12pm EST today. While supplies last, CD and vinyl purchases will come with a signed print, with the vinyl pre-orders also coming with a limited edition 7'' of 'Water Fountain' (backed with the album's 'MegaMix'). That's not all - a limited red coloured version of the LP will be made available as an indie store exclusive and through both stores, again while supplies last.

The Tune-Yards live experience will showcase a new set-up, one that reflects the album's leaning away from sax and more towards drums, heavy bass and synth. This incarnation of Tune-Yards will make its premiere on a six date tour with Arcade Fire in North America at the end of April. In addition to previously announced, long sold out shows in Los Angeles and New York around the album's release, plus six European shows the following week, today marks the confirmation of a full North American tour and five additional UK shows, along with plenty of new festival dates with more to be added in the coming months.
