Following huge critical acclaim in the US, The National's Mistaken for Strangers will be released in the UK in cinemas and on digital platforms on 27th June 2014, before being released on DVD on 14th July, courtesy of Dogwoof.
Shot by Tom Berninger (the younger brother of lead singer Matt) who is invited to join The National on tour as a roadie, the film follows the band as Tom tries to capture the behind-the-scenes action; poking the camera where it’s not wanted, learning that they aren’t as rock-and-roll as he wants them to be, and generally failing in his tour duties. Tom’s camera captures his journey as he finds himself living in Matt’s shadow and acting out in a way only a little brother can - drinking, complaining, and struggling to balance his ambition with his responsibilities. An amazingly intimate and spirited film, Mistaken For Strangers delves into the joys and struggles of brotherhood.
