Kiss Each Other Clean

24th January 2011

While Sam Beam’s early albums as Iron & Wine were sparse, intimate solo affairs, his highly praised The Shepherd’s Dog (2007) introduced layered textures and poly-rhythmic sounds that allowed his lyrics to spring to life. It’s only natural, then, that Beam would want to take this sonic collage and build upon it for his 4AD debut album, Kiss Each Other Clean (2011).

An even brighter and more focused record, it retains the idiosyncratic elements that make Iron & Wine such an engaging band. Whilst continuing to mine folk, African, rock, country, and Jamaican musical traditions for influence, his sonic palette also widened to successfully add 60s and 70s pop influences to the mix.
