4AD was founded at the end of the 1970s by Ivo Watts-Russell. Like so many of the other people associated with the label, Ivo had spent many teenage hours listening to John Peel's inspirational radio shows; wanting to be around music, he moved to London aged 17 (in 1972) and began working in record shops.
