Gus Gus were one of the few groups in the late 90s with followings in close-knit dance circles as well as amongst indie hipsters. The first formal album from this nine-piece Icelandic collective remains a quietly astonishing record.
The soundtrack music for a Kevin Spacey directed neo-noir thriller, Brook's work here turns into an interesting blend of his own style and smoky late night jazz interspersed with a variety of other instrumental touches.
Upon listening to Tanya's debut it becomes clear that the disbanded Belly wasn't suited for these songs. This is a collection of pretty pop-folk songs whose wistful fragility would have been overwhelmed in a full band setting.
