Tune-Yards : 'Sorry To Bother You' Original Film Score To Be Released On Vinyl As Part Of Record Store Day
16th October 2019

“A simultaneously erratic and ecstatic medley of instruments and vocal layering.” - Billboard
“A clamorous, giddy score… its layered vocal loops and stampeding beats kept up with each increasingly bizarre twist onscreen.” - Rolling Stone
“The [score] by Tune-Yards is organic and twitchy” - Vulture

On November 29, Tune-Yards’ original score for Boots Riley’s acclaimed 2018 film Sorry To Bother You (starring Lakeith Stanfield and Tessa Thompson) will be released on vinyl as part of Record Store Day’s Black Friday.  Tune-Yards’ score for the surrealist social satire film has been praised by Billboard as “a simultaneously erratic and ecstatic medley of instruments and vocal layering.”

Tune-Yards’ score album follows the 2018 release of Sorry To Bother You: The Soundtrack, by The Coup. Director Boots Riley described the score as “the film's musical voice” and explains the difference between the score and the soundtrack: “The characters can't hear [the score]; the soundtrack, the characters can [hear].”

The score also includes dialogue samples from the film and four bonus tracks never before heard in the film.  The bonus tracks feature up-and-coming Oakland artists including Chhoti Maa as well as Lyrics Born and Lateef the Truthspeaker.

Tune-Yards’ highly acclaimed new album I can feel you creep into my private life was released early last year.  The New York Times called it “a sleek, radical evolution” and NPR Music said it’s “Tune-Yards’ most sophisticated album to date.”  The band performed 'Heart Attack' and 'Look At Your Hands' on Kimmel and 'ABC 123' on Conan, and toured with David Byrne.  Following the release, Tune-Yards collaborated with Lakeith Stanfield’s duo Moors to release the single 'Mango.'
