"Brutal, hilarious, unexpectedly honest." The Hollywood Reporter

"The best doocumentary we've seen all year." The New York Observer

"The funniest, most meta music movie since Spinal Tap." Pitchfork

Having premiered last year at the Tribeca Film Festival, Mistaken for Strangers is finally out today on general release in the US. It's also available to stream on demand and to purchase from iTunes in most countries now (it makes its way to the UK on the 27th of June).

Shot by Tom Berninger, younger brother of The National's lead singer Matt, Mistaken for Strangers began life when Tom was invited to join The National on tour as a roadie and he decided to also film the experience. Poking a camera where it’s not wanted, he soons learns that they're not as rock-and-roll as he wants them to be, whilst generally failing in his tour duties. Capturing himself living in Matt’s shadow and acting out in a way only a little brother can - drinking, complaining, and struggling to balance his ambition with his responsibilities - Mistaken For Strangers is an amazingly intimate and spirited film that not only follows a band in their ascent but also delves into the joys and struggles of brotherhood.

You can see the trailer here or below. For more information on the film and where you can see / purchase / stream it, please visit www.mistakenforstrangersmovie.com.

The band marked the films official premiere in front of 6,000 fans at Los Angeles’ historic Shrine Auditorium on Wednesday night with a live performance afterwards. The following night, they performed 'This is the Last Time' on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon, which you can watch here or below.
